Character Name: Miko "Jennifer" Shibuya
Fandom: Kyou Kara Maou
Timeline: Through season 3 excluding the OVA's
Crimes: Blatant bribing of information out of Yuuri's friends
Personality:
Jennifer has an excess of energy and a unique natural charm that works in her favor most of the time. However, she can be a bit of a chatterbox, rarely letting anyone else get a word in edgewise. She's quick to leap to conclusions and once that happens, it's difficult to dissuade her to a different point of view. It's been the cause of more than one 'misunderstanding' between her and Shouma, as her children can attest too. They often spent the whole day outside while they waited for the heat to die down at home.
But for all that, Jennifer's quite a loving mother, quick to come to the defense of her children even if it means taking on gunmen with only a broom handle to fend them off. Of course, none of them knew of Jennifer's preceding reputation as Jennifer of Yokohama (or the beach if you prefer), garnered during her time at university. Oh the stories she could tell... For some reason though, most of her opponents, while likable enough before a match, often kept their distance from her after. Not that she let them. Someone had to help them off the mat. Their legs were a bit to shaky to hold their weight.
Her powers of observation are really quite astute, part of her natural mother's instinct. Why, not even Shouri and Yuuri's body switch managed to escape her attention. And, just like a mother, she allowed her sons to play their game out to the end as long as there was no apparent harm in it. After all, men learn best from their mistakes.
During her free time, Jennifer tends to rearrange her collection of 'cute things.' At times, you may even find her surfing the net for more dolls, teddy bears, fairies and the odd demon plushie. She's spent more than one afternoon browsing the second hand shops for things that strike her fancy. Once one gets to know Jennifer, however, one comes to the rather uncomfortable realization that Jennifer does more than collect mystical and fantastical paraphernalia. She actually believes in them. In fact, Jennifer tends not to question the existence of such creatures at all unless there's a seriously good reason to. It's a good thing too because her husband's a member of a demon tribe. And, in fact, Jennifer's rather bound and determined to prove Shouma wrong one day. She will have a child with wings! She just hasn't had one yet.
In truth, she's done a bit of research, and if her guess is right, the wing gene must be hiding out on that pesky little x chromosome that makes girls, well, girls. But for now, she's far to busy trying to raise Yuuri into being a good king to contemplate having another child.
She does have a slight bone to pick at the moment though, and while it's a proven fact girls are far more interesting than boys (especially since boys have a predilection for liking mud of all things), she doesn't have one
In the end, though, Jennifer is a mother, first and foremost, a protectoress second, and a fan of magical beings third. Give her a dragon, and she'll love you forever! Just ask Shouma. It was the thought of children with wings that convinced her to accept his proposal of marriage in the first place.
*cough*
But one should beware. She gets a little lost in her own world of make-believe creatures and has a hard time remembering names. She might just make one up for you. Oh well, you'll get used to it. Eventually.
Abilities: Jennifer's practically harmless unless you threaten her precious sons or those she cares for. But, just in case, you might want to keep anything she can use as a make-shift sword/foil away from her...
Multifandom Test:
Jennifer would get along fabulously with Nodame from Nodame Cantabile because Nodame is the type of girl who's strong willed (and therefore would be a challenge) but obviously needs taking care of and generally educated in the art of being, well--feminine. Not to mention Jennifer would insist on fixing that deadly curry Nodame makes all the time. It's a good thing Jennifer has a stomach of steel else she'd succumb to food poisoning somewhere around the 16th curry attempt...
To Nodame, the appeal of friendship would be the long conversations they'd have together over the more fantastical and fictional aspects of their hobbies whether it was brainstorming new ideas for Nodame's Moja-Moja series or discussing the finer points of Puri Gorota. And that's no mean task either as more than one anime otaku has discovered his or her love dims by comparison to Nodame's... To bad to anyone who listens in on the conversation though. It's bound to give them a headache since both are talking non-stop and on seemingly entirely different topics. Oh well. At least they're both happy.
To Jennifer, she'd be the shoulder Nodame could cry on whenever she flails over Chiaki's seeming lack of love for her, and after the crying is done, Jennifer would delight in picking out clothing, doing her make-up, and all those other little things she would have loved to do with her own daughter. Chiaki wouldn't stand (as much of) a chance if Jennifer was there to encourage Nodame. But, whether that'd be because Nodame would actually succeed at enticing Chiaki or because Jennifer would incite Nodame into wearing him down...
Third person sample:
Jennifer stirred her lukewarm tea with a finger. Her chin was propped in her free hand as she stared in the general direction of a tub full of water. "Yuuri," she thought, taking a sip of her tea. She choked in surprise at the unexpectedly strong taste of tea that had steeped too long. She quickly sat her teacup aside, and glanced at the clock on her mantel. She shook her head. Somehow, she had lost an hour in idle thought.
"Mou," she said, standing to her feet. "Enough, Jennifer! You can't sit around all day thinking of how much fun Yuuri's having over there while you're stuck minding the house." She nodded curtly to herself before stalking towards the door, pulling off her apron as she walked and continuing to talk to herself. "You're going to go outside and spend as much of Uma darling's money as you can!"
Jennifer scooped up her purse from the side table and sent one last longing, wistful look at the bathroom. She hoped--wished--that Yuuri wold be home in time for dinner. Jenifer pushed up on the door, and stepped outside, soaking in the sun even as her spirits recharged with lightening fast speed. Maybe she'd make Yuuri's favorite curry tonight and set an extra seat at the table for Murata.
Jennifer's step was light as she set off in the general direction of the marketplace and she was already plotting what kind of dress she get Greta and maybe she'd toss in an extra special shirt or two for Wolfie and then there was that new bridal magazine she had been meaning to pick up...
First person sample:
Eh? [She blinks for good measure, and then gasps as words come into focus before her very eyes.]
[She skims it once.] Criminal? [Skims it again.] Sentience?
[Huffs] Well I never! I don't know why anyone in the world would think I'd hurt a poor defenseless dragon. [Pauses, lets it sink in] Dragons? [Sparkly eyes of doom] You never told me you had dragons in Shin Makoku, Yuuri!
